Abstract

Estela Knott, the founder of the LUA Project discusses her life as a Latina-Appalachian woman. She discusses her family's immigration story, how Latino Appalachian culture has impacted her life, and her travels throughout her life. She discusses how the current political world is hurting Latino Virginians and what she wants to see change. She also discusses the LUA Project, which she is a founding member of. She shares stories about her family, how she came to meet her husband, as well as motherhood. She also discusses what it was like to be the daughter of the first Mexican immigrant in Luray, Virginia. She shares the power that music has in her community, and how she has helped spread Latino culture in the Appalachian region.
